Component identity: mark, serial, PCID and QR

How PEB Studio tells pieces apart: assembly and part marks from Tekla, a serial for each physical piece (Item n / N), the Physical Component ID used on site, and signed QR codes.

Marks come from the model

Tekla numbering gives identical assemblies the same assembly mark (e.g. RF-1) and identical parts the same part mark. A mark therefore describes a type of piece, not a single physical piece: RF-1 may exist 12 times.

Every physical piece gets a serial

For production, packing and erection, PEB Studio tracks each physical piece separately. Labels read Item n / N – piece 3 of the 12 RF-1 – so a scan always points to one piece, never to “some RF-1”.

Physical Component ID and position

Smart Erection gives every physical component a Physical Component ID (PC00001…) and a QR ID, generated from the IFC and stable across model revisions. The PCID links the piece to its position (grid, elevation, zone, step), its package and container, and its inspections.

Where each identity is used

IdentityWhere you see it
Assembly / part markBOM, drawings, cutting plans, weld register
Serial (Item n / N)Production labels, QR confirmation, packing
PCID / QR IDComponent register, passport, navigator, handover
GUIDIFC instance, position in the model

What a QR code contains

Only the project, the type, the reference and an HMAC signature – no password, token or data. Access is decided by the server at each scan, so a photographed label exposes nothing and a forged code is rejected.
