ISO 16739 (IFC) Industry Foundation Classes for data sharing in construction

IFC is the open, vendor-neutral data model for exchanging building information. Tekla Structures and most BIM tools export IFC, which is what PEB Studio reads.

CodeISO 16739 (IFC)Issued byISO / buildingSMART InternationalFieldBIM data exchange

What it covers

  • Objects (beams, columns, plates, fasteners, grids…), their geometry, properties and relationships.
  • Versions IFC2x3 and IFC4 are the most widely used.

Key points for fabricators

  • Assemblies, part marks and materials must be filled correctly in the authoring tool – IFC carries what the model contains.
  • Welds are not usually exported as objects.

How PEB Studio supports it

IFC import builds the BOM, 3D, weld detection, grids and component identities; a new IFC revision keeps PCIDs and installation data.
